If you’ve read our about us page you know Metro-Flow Plumbing has been around since 1989! That’s older than even some of our favorite customers and because of that experience we have amassed invaluable knowledge in the plumbing industry.
Today we will discuss 5 problems that we have seen time and time again over our years serving the Dallas community and more importantly how to prevent them, but before we continue make sure to check out the rest of our website for all sorts of knowledge on the various plumbing services we provide. At Metro-Flow we put our customers first and take pride in the professional service we provide.
Now on with the blog!
Low Water Pressure.
Low water pressure can be caused by a number of things, we will cover a few briefly. Mineral build up in either your pipes or faucet/shower heads may be a small cause or it could be a broken main line somewhere causing the low pressure. If your neighbors are going through a similar problem it might be a main line causing the issue. Let’s hope it’s not that and concentrate on the smaller issue of mineral buildup as this is a problem. Do NOT remove any shower heads or faucet taps unless you absolutely feel confident pulling them off. Soak these in vinegar overnight and this will help to break down some of that buildup before installing them back on. We recommend giving us a call at 214-328-7371 and we will take care of the low pressure problems hastily and correctly.
Leaky Pipes.
Leaky pipes can also be a source of low water pressure and that small leak that you think “it’s okay” to ignore for a bit will eat away at your water bill. 1 drip a second is about 3,000 gallons of water a year. Again we don’t recommend letting these run, call us at 214-328-7371 and we will not only pinpoint where the problem is coming from but also address it correctly. Remember not all leaky pipes can be seen with the naked eye. In worst case scenarios these can be found inside walls or under floors or crawl spaces. Call us and let us help you.
Clogged Sinks/Toilets.
We’ve written about these in the past. Some people love to flush anything down toilets or flush things that don’t belong down sinks without thinking of the repercussions. Makeup, for example, is often washed away in sinks but these products contain ingredients that build up and cause your sink to clog up. You want to make sure you leave your sink running for an adequate amount of time even when brushing your teeth or washing shave trimmings away. Do NOT use over the counter clog cleaning products to solve these problems. These chemicals often call to be poured and left overnight, they can however heat up your pipes and cause long term damage to them. In the case of toilets, please only use them to flush human waste. Any serious clogs will have to be snaked out by professionals.
Running Toilet.
This happens more often than you think. There are lots of components inside toilets that will go bad with age and no longer work properly. We don’t recommend fixing these yourself. Call us at 214-328-7371 immediately to inspect a problem like this. Though you might be tempted to, if your toilet is already running and not stopping it is likely to be a problem only a plumber can take care of. Don’t waste any time or water and give Metro-Flow a call before your water bill skyrockets.
Water Heater Issues.
An old water heater is more likely to have leaks and drips. Do not let this get worse and call us immediately. An unchecked leak in your water heater can cause your water utility bills to skyrocket. A leaky pipe can be repaired but if your water heater is old and has considerable wear and tear to it such as rust, it is most likely time to change it out. We can inspect it, figure out the problem, and give you options that will save you money in the long run.
